GUCA Scholarship Foundation Gives Back

 
The GUCA Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce the scholarships awarded to GUCA members’ children. This year the GUCA Scholarship Foundation introduced a new scholarship opportunity, the Industry Scholarship, for GUCA members’ children who are students in construction and/or building construction programs. The Foundation gave two industry scholarships for 2008 of $2,000.00 each to:

Darren Higginbotham is the son of Grady Leon and H. Irene Higginbotham, Archer Western Contractors. Ltd., D
uluth, Georgia. Darren is currently attending Southern Polytechnic State University majoring in Construction management. Darren’s goal is to become a lead estimator.

Thomas Terry is the son of Tommy and Terry Terry, Southern Champion Construction, Pooler, Georgia. Thomas is currently attending East Georgia College majoring in construction management. Thomas’s goal is to become the president of a large utility construction company.

The Foundation also gave 10 high school senior scholarships for 2008 of $1,000.00 each to:

Jarrod Allen is the son of Rhea and Ceasar Allen, Southern Safety Services, Hampton, Georgia. Jarrod graduated from Lovejoy High School and will be attending the University of Florida where he plans a course of study in civil engineering, with a minor in political science. Jarrod plans to continue his education by going to graduate school to major in Business or International Law. He plans to become active in politics to help change laws and write policies for the aging infrastructures across America.

Kia Beech is the daughter of Edna Beech, Garney Construction, Marietta, Georgia. Kia graduated from Tech High School and plans to attend Mercer University to study gynecology/nursing/midwife. After Mercer, Kia plans to continue her studies in order to pursue her goals. Kia has taken courses at Atlanta Technical College to acquire her CNA certificate.

Megan Blackwell is the daughter of Tracey and Thomas Blackwell, Godwin Pumps, Kennesaw, Georgia. Megan graduated from Kelly High School and plans to attend Brenau University. Her planned major is psychology where she plans to become a psychologist, counselor or even teach psychology.

Derek Buffardi is the son of Derek C. and Martha J. Buffardi, Godwin Pumps, Kennesaw, Georgia. Derek graduated from Kell High School and plans to attend Georgia Institute of Technology. Derek’s course of study will be Environmental Engineering and will focus on water conservation.

Tommie Burch is the son of Gwen and Tony Burch, Douglas Electrical and Plumbing Company, Douglas, Georgia. Tommy graduated from Atkinson County High School and will be attending South Georgia College with a course study of Science in Biology. Once he completes his associates degree, he plans to continue his education to acquire a degree in Animal Science.

Chris Cooley is the son of Shirley and Gary Cooley, Rockdale Pipeline, Inc., Social Circle, Georgia. Chris graduated from Social Circle High School and plans to attend Gordon College. Chris’s course of study will be political science and history. He plans to become a government or history teacher.

William Criswell is the son of Roxann and Lonnie Criswell, DeKalb Pipeline Company, Covington, Georgia. William graduated from Eastside High School and plans to attend Georgia Perimeter College. His course of study will be communications/business. After graduating from Georgia Perimeter College, William plans to attend the University of Georgia to study landscape architect.

Justin Forrester is the son of Wade and Debbie Forrester, Yancey Bros. Co., Fayetteville, Georgia. Justin graduated from Whitewater High School and plans to attend the University of Alabama. Justin plans to study criminal justice and become a successful lawyer.

Spencer Lowe is the son of Eddie and Suzanne Lowe, HD Supply Waterworks, Macon, Georgia. Spencer graduated from Rutland High School and plans to attend Belmont University with a course study in engineering.

Jeno Pelerose is the son of Gene and Ann Pelerose, Willow Construction, Inc., Newnan, Georgia. Jeno graduated from Newnan High School and plans to attend the University of Georgia where he plans to obtain a degree in pharmacy.

The GUCA Scholarship Foundation is a 501/C (3) charitable foundation created to help advance the college opportunities of GUCA contractor and associate members employees’ children. The Scholarship Foundation is funded by proceeds from the Scholarship Foundation Skeet Shoot, Fun Run and private donations. Individual and corporate pledges are available and endowments and honorable contributions can be established in memory or honor of any company or individual.
